Let me present to you our new logo for the school. This is called the Conformities of St. Francis of Assisi. It is the shield of the Franciscan Order. Let me explain.
St. Francis wanted to live the Gospel to its fullest. In fact, he did such a good job that at the end of his life Jesus wanted the world to see this. Two years before St. Francis died he received the stigmata, the five wounds of Christ, on Mt. Alverno. His biographers said that he conformed himself so perfectly to the poor and humble Christ that Jesus imprinted his sacred wounds on his body. The crossed arms represent Jesus Christ and St. Francis. The bare arm represents the arm of Jesus Christ. The arm with the sleeve represents the arm of St. Francis. Both have the marks from the nails in their hands. These two arms traditionally appear at the base of the cross.
As you know, we have always had the cross as part of our logo. In order to enrich our Catholic faith and the Franciscan tradition, we have now added the crossed arms. We will place this new logo on our new shirts and clothes, flyers and letters – anything that we print. Let me assure you that you don’t have to buy any new clothes. Your child can wear the uniforms, jackets, sweaters etc that they have.
St. Francis of Assisi, pray for us.
Father Matt
